Fireworks Lesson 4:
Designing Buttons

Designing Buttons

Buttons are fairly simple to design in Fireworks, but designing them well is the difficult part. To design a button you probably want to start with a shape. The shapes can be found under the Vector section of the tool bar. The Shape Tool

  • 1. Create a new document in Fireworks
  • 2. Select a shape to use for your button
  • 3. Click-and-drag to draw the shape on the canvas

Once your shape is created you can use the Properties Pane to edit the color, outline, or other properties. Alternatively, you can use some pre-made Fireworks styles for your button. You can access these from the Assets Pane. Once you have opened the Assets Pane you can apply a style from the Styles Tab. The style will be applied to the current selection.

  • 4. Design your button using properties or styles
  • 5. Use the Text Tool to add text to your button

You can also create rollover buttons using Fireworks. A rollover button is a button that changes slightly when the mouse hovers over it. To create a rollover button simply change your button slightly and save it under a different name. Check out Dreamweaver Lesson 5 to find out how to put your rollover button on your web page.
